"KILLS MY SIGNAL COMPLETELY BLOCKING ABILITY TO SEND/RECEIVE CALLS/SMS" 2010-02-06
By Best Blarney (Fort Worth, Texas)
I would really like for this unit to work. I've read all the reviews, and decided it was the best for me and ordered it. Unfortunately, the FastMac IV on my new Iphone 3GS completely blocks the ability to send/receive calls/sms. I have been testing it all morning in a stationary location where I consistently receive 5 bars. Upon installation of the FastMac IV my signal strength drops to 0 and my call attempts fail, while my sms attempts fail as well. Upon removal of the FastMac IV I am again able to send/receive calls/sms as the signal strength meter jumps back up to 5. I also tested it while in a call, the call distorted then dropped immediately upon installation of the external batter. I've placed the battery on my iphone, attempted calls/sms, and removed the battery and successfully placed calls/sms several dozen times. This, unfortunately is how I've spent most of my day. I'm seeing other reports of a similar condition experienced by other users on the web, so I'm not the only one experiencing this severe issue. However, it seems clear that not everyone is experiencing this problem, so I'm very much hoping that I somehow received a defective unit. I'm not an electrical engineer so I don't know what sort of defect would cause this problem. I am hoping J&R will do an exchange so I can hopefully get the FastMac IV and still have a usable phone.

"Fastmac iV Hits a Home Run!" 2010-01-13
By Alan M. Ruben (Wheeling WV USA)
I have used my FastMac IV for 2 weeks - long enough to explore its functions and capabilities. This is actually the third iPhone battery extender I have owned, starting with the Incase Powerslider, which set the standard for a time. Here's what I have found: First, the FastMac is a little bulkier than the other extenders, but still fits the canvas belt case which accommodated my Powerslider that I purchased at an AT & T Store. It is about one third of an inch longer than the Powerslider (or the Mophie Juicepack Air which is the same size). It also is slightly thicker and heavier than the Powerslider and Juicepack Air. It does not completely surround the iPhone (as did the Powerslider) to protect the iPhone from knocks and scrapes, though it does come with a screen protector.

That said, the trade off with the FastMac is an immensely greater battery capacity. The Powerslider essentially doubled the iPhone's capacity - about 1200 mAh (essentially the same as the iPhone's internal battery). The FastMac iV battery supplies 3,100 mAh. It will charge my iPhone from empty to maximum charge about 3 and one-half times! Completely draining the iPhone battery and charging it to maximum is not, however, the most efficient way to do the charging. I was initially puzzled about how to sync my iPhone through the FastMac because the instruction pamphlet did not make that clear. FastMac technical support instructed that the device must be turned off, then powered up while connected via the Apple USB cable, which worked like a charm. The LED light on the back will be a very handy flashlight. It provides adequate illumination for nighttime photographs if the subject is fairly close - up to 36 inches, but isn't helpful at all beyond that distance. FastMac iV has a trade-in program which I think is unique in the industry; this allows you to trade up, at a substantial discount, from the present model when newer versions become available. FastMac seems very durable and well made. Though slightly larger and heavier than other units I have seen, FastMac IV presently sets the standard for high capacity iPhone battery extenders.

"DO NOT PURCHASE FASTMAC BATTERIES!!!!" 2010-01-09
By Jerrell K. Bryant (Connecticut & NY, USA)
I purchased a FastMac battery for my 17inch Macbook Pro because my old Apple battery had warp & I was hopping to saving a few dollars.. I WAS TOTALLY WRONG. When I installed the FastMac battery everything was fine... as my battery power declined to 20% my Macbook Pro shutdown without any warning. So I decided to take out the FastMac battery because it was not charging when I plugged in my power adaptor and re-installed my Apple battery and my Macbook Pro responded.

I notified FastMac about the defective battery and they agreed to ship me a new battery with FREE SHIPPING. I decide to make an appointment at the Genius bar at the Apple Store. Apple gave me new WORKING battery free of charge.

I then decided to cancel my replacement order with FastMac (oh yeah you have to order a new battery before they'll send you a shipping label), I was then notified that

"Shipping is not refundable. We'd be happy to send you a fully tested battery ensuring satisfaction with the product, but you've chosen to get a refund instead, which does not cover the shipping.

Darlene"

I had to pay $18 to ship a NEW DEFECTIVE BATTERY UNDER WARRANTY (NOT EVEN A WEEK OLD) back to FastMac!!!!!

TOTAL RIP-OFF!!! LEARN FROM MY ERROR DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM FASTMAC!!! IN THE LONG RUN I PAID MORE THAN I WOULD HAVE FOR A NEW BATTERY FROM APPLE ( WHICH I GOT FOR FREE BECAUSE OF APPLE's EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE ... STICK TO APPLE!!

"Great product for anyone with an iphone" 2010-01-03
By Lee (Delaware)
I purchased this product to make sure I got through the day at Disneyworld without my phone dying. I holds about 3 full charges for my iPhone 3G. The product is fantastic, it cradles the phone rather than a flimsy dock only connector. It is rugged, but slightly bulky. I don't use a case for my phone, so there was nothing to remove for me to use this. I frequently use it when I know I may not be somewhere I can charge my phone if I use it. I highly recommend this product for anyone looking to extend the usage time for their phone!!!

 "Poor Experieince" 2009-11-16
By Rennie R. Pelkie (USA)
Purchased directly from FastMac. Purchased the version that supposedly works with the iPhone 3GS.

As a battery - it works well and does a good job extending the life. But so did the Richard Solo. Oh yeah - the light works also.

Everything else - not at all.

* Did not sync with iTunes when plugged in. Both on Mac & PC

* Did not allow pass through to car audio or anything else we plugged into the apple port.

Worst - I called and emailed support 3 days after testing everything. They wanted me to buy another one and send this one back and then they would credit my card. I told them they already had my card on file and I would gladly send it in. They needed Manager approval for that. After 4 emails and a number of calls - no manager could ever give the rep approval. And really no willingness to reach out and help out. Just consistently got the message - "Manager has not been able to approve yet."

I even wrote them an email saying "Fine - charge my card and send me a replacement and I will send it back" No response. Like they wanted to wait for my warranty to expire so they didn't have to deal with it.

I never complain. If they would give me the time of day - I would just complain to them. It usually is not worth it. But when you get this kind of service - I just can't help but say something.

Buyers - Beware.

If it gets resolved some day - I promise to retract this. Just want what I ordered. Not trying to make waves.
