First of all, the flimsy little plastic tool they give you to take the glass off DIDN'T WORK! It bent after numerous tries to pry it off, and finally I found this really helpful video [...] which suggested a suction cup, which worked very easily!
The other very difficult thing I had to overcome was how to clip/unclip the "ribbon cable #3". This video doesn't really cover it in detail, but this is what to look out for: There is a little black rectangle near where ribbon cable #3 attaches that must be lifted UP using a flat screw driver. Once this is flipped up, you can then slide the ribbon cable under the adjacent flat rectangle receptacle, and then flip the black rectangle back down. Other than this connector, all of the other connectors basically lift straight up.
I was amazed that after putting it all back together that everything worked correctly--seriously! Don't attempt this unless you are VERY confident and/or daring!
The instructions that came with this battery are NOT NEARLY enough. You MUST find other sources to help out, like the above video (there are a lot more on youtube).
I've only used the phone for about 1/2 a day, but so far the battery is holding a charge pretty well.

I purchased 2 replacement batteries for 2 3G iPhones. The lasting power on my phone clunked out after a couple days. On my wife's phone it lasted maybe a month before it couldn't hold a charge. Based off our usage behavior, I know that a fresh battery on a single charge lasts us 7-9 hours. These batteries typically die within 5. what's the point of replacing the batteries if they act the same as dead ones?

No issues with the battery, but the installation is VERY tricky. Search the web for iPhone 3G battery replacement for step-by-step instructions with larger pictures.
Things to watch out for:
Flexing the PCB will damage the trace connecting the GSM antenna to the board. I broke mine and the little inductor fell off. The inductor was cheap and didn't have pads to connect back to the board, so I used a solder blob to bridge the gap. The trace broke (and it's 5 mils wide) and I had to bridge that with a very small 30g wire.
Putting the connectors back on is also very tricky. You will likely need some optics to help you see where they connect.
I would not recommend this for the faint at heart. I was an engineer and had some trouble doing this, but was able to clean up my mess and get the phone working again (but only with access to a stereoscope and temp controlled rework station). It should last until Apple releases the next iPhone.
Be careful, make a fatal mistake and you will end up with an iPod Touch not a cel phone.

Well... to start with, I bought a couple of these just in case my iPhone battery decides to bail out on me. One day I forgot my iPhone in my car to literally cook on a simmering summer day. I wasn't surprised when I immediately noticed a downgrade in the battery's performance, and decided to look on the bright side, which is that I get to install and try one of my new batteries.
Well... The installation was nothing less of what it is said to be... a tedious and tough procedure... felt like i was literally operating on the phone. Of course i didn't expect the battery to perform to the fullest right out of the box, so i carried out the recommended full charge-discharge cycles first, around 3 times, and the the testing began. I have to say, performance was mediocre at best. The battery hardly every lasted 8 hours, and that's without my extensive usage routine. I was disappointed!
However, sometime down the road I decide to upgrade my iPhone software, and only then i started to notice a slight improvement in performance. Accompanied with some battery saving tweaks, like dimming brightness and turning off wifi whenever not needed, the phone started lasting through the day.
In conclusion, I have to say that as an alternative to sending the phone for battery replacement, this worked, the replacement battery may have more sluggish performance than the apple original, but I think with these tweaks I talked about, a 'moderate' iphone user can survive the day and save an extra $60. I have ever since sold it to someone who hardly ever uses their phone, and it now lasts 3-4 days. Up to you.
